Hector Absi Shares Fall Car Care Tips for Las Vegas Drivers
Fall in Las Vegas doesn’t bring the dramatic change of seasons you’ll find in other parts of the country, but it’s still a great time to give your vehicle some attention.

After months of triple-digit temperatures, scorching pavement and an air conditioner working overtime, Las Vegas vehicles have been through a lot by the time October rolls around.
Hector Absi of Wreck Center in Henderson says the transition into cooler weather is a good reminder for drivers to check some of the basics and take care of small issues before they become bigger repairs.
Here are a few fall car care tips worth adding to your list.
1. Have Your Battery Checked
Most people associate dead batteries with cold winter mornings, but extreme summer heat can be just as damaging.
Under-the-hood temperatures during a Las Vegas summer can take a toll on a battery, and sometimes the first sign of that damage doesn’t appear until temperatures begin changing.
If your vehicle is turning over more slowly than usual, your lights seem weak or your battery is already several years old, fall is a good time to have it tested.
Also take a quick look at the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections.
A five-minute inspection now is much easier than discovering a dead battery when you’re trying to leave for work.
2. Check Your Tires After a Long Las Vegas Summer
Your tires have spent the last several months dealing with some extremely hot pavement.
Inspect them for uneven wear, cracking, bulges or anything else that looks unusual. Check the tread depth and make sure all four tires are properly inflated.
As temperatures begin to drop, tire pressure can drop as well.
This becomes even more important for Las Vegas drivers heading out of town. A fall weekend trip can quickly take you from the relatively mild weather of Southern Nevada into much colder conditions in Utah, Northern Nevada or the surrounding mountains.
Don’t forget about the spare tire, either.
3. Replace Worn Windshield Wipers
Windshield wipers don’t get much attention in Southern Nevada until the day they’re desperately needed.
Months of intense sunshine can dry and damage the rubber on wiper blades. If they’re streaking, skipping across the windshield or leaving sections of glass untouched, replace them.
While you’re at it, refill the windshield washer reservoir.
Between dust, wind and the occasional fall storm, having a clean windshield makes a noticeable difference.
4. Give the Cooling System Some Attention
Summer may be over, but your vehicle’s cooling system remains important year-round.
Check the coolant level and look underneath the vehicle for signs of leaks. It’s also worth inspecting visible hoses for cracks, swelling or other deterioration.
If your temperature gauge has been running higher than normal or you’ve noticed the smell of coolant, don’t ignore it just because outside temperatures are getting cooler.
Las Vegas summers can expose weaknesses in cooling-system components, and addressing them now can prevent a much bigger problem later.
5. Pay Attention to Your Brakes
Fall is also a good opportunity to think about your brakes.
Squeaking doesn’t always mean there’s a major problem, but grinding, vibration, pulling or a noticeable change in braking performance deserves attention.
This is especially important if you’re planning road trips that involve mountain driving. The elevation changes surrounding Las Vegas can put considerably more demand on brakes than everyday city driving.
If something doesn’t feel right, have it inspected.
6. Check Your Lights
The days are getting shorter, which means more driving after sunset.
Walk around your vehicle and check the headlights, brake lights, turn signals and reverse lights. If your headlights have become cloudy or yellowed, cleaning or restoring the lenses can also improve nighttime visibility.
It’s one of the easiest fall maintenance checks you can do yourself.
7. Listen When Your Vehicle Tells You Something Has Changed
Drivers spend enough time behind the wheel that they usually recognize when something feels different.
Maybe there’s a vibration that wasn’t there before. Maybe you’re hearing a new sound when turning, accelerating or braking. Perhaps a warning light has appeared or you’ve noticed fluid underneath the vehicle.
Don’t automatically assume the worst, but don’t ignore it either.
Sometimes the fix is simple maintenance. Other times, a component may need to be replaced.
And replacing a part doesn’t always mean buying brand new.
Recycled OEM Parts Can Be a Smart Alternative
Through his work with Wreck Center in Henderson, Nevada, Hector Absi has seen how much money drivers can sometimes save by considering quality recycled OEM auto parts.
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. These are components originally manufactured for a specific make and model rather than aftermarket replacements designed to fit a range of applications.
When a repair requires a replacement component, a quality recycled OEM part can often provide an affordable alternative to purchasing the same component new.
It’s also a practical way to give usable automotive components another life instead of unnecessarily sending them into the waste stream.
Wreck Center helps customers locate recycled parts for cars, trucks and SUVs, including many components that can become expensive or difficult to find through traditional parts channels.
Fall Is a Good Time for a Vehicle Reset
You don’t need snow or freezing temperatures to have a reason for seasonal vehicle maintenance.
In Las Vegas, fall is really about recovering from summer.
Your battery has endured months of heat. Your tires have spent thousands of miles on hot pavement. Rubber components have been exposed to intense UV, and your cooling system has worked through some of the toughest conditions of the year.
Taking a little time to inspect your vehicle now can help you catch problems earlier and head into the cooler months with more confidence.
And if that inspection reveals a component that needs replacing, Hector Absi and the team at Wreck Center in Henderson can help you explore whether a quality recycled OEM part makes sense for your repair.
Sometimes keeping a vehicle on the road doesn’t require a brand-new part. It just requires finding the right one.
